Where we work

We are based in the Women's Centre of the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. The Oxford Biomedical Research Centre funded the refurbishment of Level 4 of the Women’s Centre to create an OSPREA Translational Research Centre, alongside the NHS Antenatal Ultrasound Unit. This purpose-built space is used for ultrasound scanning, the collection and storage of blood samples and carrying out observational and interventional studies.

Our OSPREA & Gynae Team comprises of doctors, scientists, researchers, midwives, nurses and support staff who work together to lead research into women’s health in the areas of reproduction, obstetrics and gynaecology. Women's Health Trials

The Oxford Safer Pregnancy Alliance (OSPREA) runs a range of trials that women can participate in – for women before pregnancy, women and their babies during and after pregnancy, as well as general women’s health studies.We are supported by the Nuffield Department of Women's & Reproductive Health, (part of the University of Oxford) the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and the Thames Valley & South Midlands Clinical Research Network, part of the National Institute for Health Research.

How we work and how to contact us

The Nuffield Department of Women's & Reproductive Health sought and obtained ethical approval to allow the medical records (including clinical data, ultrasound images and fetal heart traces) of all mothers and babies to be used anonymously and confidentially to monitor and improve the quality of the maternity services, and help research into the causes of pregnancy‐related problems. That approval has since been extended to include hospitals in the Oxford Academic Health Science Maternity Network. Please contact us to discuss the studies you may be eligible for and answer any questions you may have.

We run a range of trials that women can participate in – for women before pregnancy, women and their babies during and after pregnancy, as well as general women’s health studies. We can also refer you to other local research departments who are running pregnancy related studies if you are not suitable for any studies run by OSPREA.

Find Us

John radcliffe

We are primarily based at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, where we have a dedicated research unit with private consulting rooms, scanning rooms and waiting area. The unit is located on Level 4 of the Womens Centre and is connected to the Ultrasound Department – the entrance is through the Ultrasound Department waiting area.
