MSc in Clinical Embryology
Welcome to the home page of the MSc in Clinical Embryology at the University of Oxford. This one-year, residential-taught Masters course aims to provide graduates from either a scientific or clinical background with advanced theoretical and practical understanding of human reproductive biology, embryology, infertility and assisted reproductive technology (ART). We place significant emphasis on providing ‘hands-on’ practical training in a range of laboratory techniques associated with scientific research, clinical diagnosis, or ART, including vitrification, comparative array hybridisation, gamete micromanipulation and infra-red laser biopsy.
Our graduates have secured a range of exciting opportunities across the world. For example, many of our graduates are now studying for higher research degrees (e.g., PhD/DPhil) and pursuing academic or research careers. Others have secured positions as embryologists or work for global fertility companies. Several of our graduates have now begun medical school, either within the UK or overseas. In many cases, our students had already qualified as physicians before they came to Oxford and used our course as a means of specialising in fertility medicine.
The MSc course is based at the Institute of Reproductive Sciences at the Oxford Business Park, with dedicated state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities.
The course, and our teaching staff, has won a variety of teaching excellence awards. In 2016, our Course Director, Professor Kevin Coward, was a finalist in the Royal Society of Biology’s Higher Education Bioscience Teacher of the Year Competition, an award scheme which aims to identify the best teaching talent across the UK.
