Welcome to the information pages for NDWRH’s postgraduate research degrees.

Below, you will find information on the DPhil and MSc by Research in Women's and Reproductive Health programmes and the process to apply for them. You can also search for an exciting project for your DPhil or, if you have a project in mind, you can find a supervisor to contact to discuss your plans. Did you know?

We currently have 32 postgraduate research students from 25 different countries. There are two different postgraduate research degrees that you can undertake at the Nuffield Department of Women's & Reproductive Health. The Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) in Women's and Reproductive Health (a DPhil is the Oxford name for a PhD or doctorate); or The Master of Science by Research (MSc(Res)) in Women's and Reproductive Health.

Graduate Student Symposium

The Graduate Student Symposium is a student-run event which takes place every November. It provides students in the Nuffield Department of Women's & Reproductive Health with an opportunity to practice presenting talks and posters to a friendly audience. There are also prizes to be won!

DPhil Students - Where are they now?

Suseela, who completed her DPhil in 2015, is now a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Malaya, in Malaysia. She says that doing the DPhil in the Nuffield Department of Women's & Reproductive Health was an optimistic turning point in her life. She gained extensive theoretical and practical knowledge, and it enabled her to perform her duties confidently and diplomatically in her current role.

Women's and Reproductive Health Postgraduate Research Degrees

Whether you want to do a DPhil or MSc by research, you can choose to study topics such as: oocytes and sperm, preimplantation genetic diagnosis, genetic studies, molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying normal and aberrant reproductive function, immunology of pregnancy, gynaecological cancer, clinical studies in women's health and pregnancy, and epidemiological and health services research.

This programme is participating in Black Academic Futures via the Medical Sciences Division's guarantee of at least 10 places per year across its doctoral programmes for the next four years' intakes of DPhil students.

The deadline for applications is 12:00 midday UK time on Friday 30th June 2023.

graduate programme scholarships

For the 2023/24 Post Graduate Student intake we will be awarding a University Clarendon scholarship (PGR and MSc Clinical Embryology admissions are eligible) and an MRC scholarship (PGR admissions who satisfy home fee status, fulfilling MRC’s topic and candidate-based criteria are eligible) through competition. Both scholarships cover student fees and provide a living expenses stipend. Only students applying for the December 9^th 2022 deadline will be considered for these two awards.
