Entry requirements
To apply, you should have a strong academic background, typically holding a first-class or upper second-class undergraduate degree (or an equivalent international qualification). We welcome applicants from a wide range of relevant fields, including:
- Medicine and Public Health
- Allied Health Professions (such as nursing, midwifery, physiotherapy, pharmacology, and ultrasonography)
- International Development and other social sciences (like political science)
If your degree is from the USA, a minimum GPA of 3.5 out of 4.0 is required. For applicants from other countries, please visit our International Qualifications page for guidance on the qualifications and grades required.
Additionally, you are required to have at least 1-2 years of experience in a field related to Global Women’s Health. This can include formal employment, internships, or unpaid work.
Scientific publications are not expected but will be viewed favourably.
Your experience, along with your academic record, should demonstrate your commitment to the field of Global Women's Health.
How to apply
We recommend that you aim to complete and submit your application at least two weeks in advance of the deadline.
Before applying, it’s important to familiarise yourself with the application process and deadlines. Oxford’s application guide provides advice on preparing a strong submission, and you can also use an interactive tool to assess whether your application is likely to be competitive. An application fee of £75 is payable per application, though fee waivers are available for eligible applicants, including those from low-income backgrounds, refugees and displaced persons, and previous applicants to Graduate Access Programmes.
You are not required to contact the course team before applying, though our team would love to answer any questions you have. As part of Oxford’s commitment to fair access, socio-economic data is considered during the selection process to help contextualise applications.
When completing your application, make sure all supporting documents meet the stated requirements. For this course, details normally included in a CV should be entered directly into the application form, and a separate CV will not be accepted.
Applicants must provide three referees (two academic and one professional) which outline academic achievement, motivation for working in the field of global women’s health, evidence of work experience, ability to work in a team as well as the value of the MSc in terms of career progression. A personal statement of a 350 to 500 words should also be included.
Personal statement tips
Your personal statement is your opportunity to show us who you are and why you belong in the MSc. In your statement, please tell us:
- Why you want to pursue the MSc in Global Women’s Health
- How your past studies and work experience are relevant to the course
- What unique perspective or skills you will bring to the course cohort
- What specific parts of the course interest you and why.
- How this MSc will help you achieve your career goals and/or impact the work you're currently doing in your country.
As this is a part-time online course, students should explain what arrangements they will put in place in order to succeed in pursuing the course alongside their other commitments (family/work) as well as a statement on their connectivity and/or ability to work online.
Your statement will be assessed for: coherence; evidence of passion and motivation for working in this area; relevant professional experience; value the MSc will add to current or future work; evidence of ability to work online; as well as your ability to write clearly and concisely in English within the confines of a strict word count.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I APPLY?
If you are shortlisted, we will invite you to an interview. This interview will be conducted online via Microsoft Teams and will last approximately 20 minutes. You can expect to be interviewed by at least two academic members of the Departmental Selection Committee, typically the MSc Course Director and Deputy Director. You will also have a chance to ask us questions about the course or studying at Oxford at the end of the interview.
