Lesa Levett has emerged victorious at yesterday’s VC Awards ceremony. Lesa was honoured with the prestigious "Enhancing Oxford’s Professional Services Award" in recognition of her remarkable contributions towards driving positive change within our department and her support in other departments within MSD.

Lesa Levett's innovative leadership has been instrumental in transforming our operational delivery and cultivating a culture of excellence. Her initiatives, including the introduction of a new leadership & development structure, behaviour charter, biweekly pulse surveys, measures to support mental health, service reviews, project management tools, and enhanced staff development opportunities, and guidance to our working groups to develop our departmental strategy, have significantly impacted our department.

The Vice-Chancellor's Awards serve to acknowledge outstanding achievements and celebrate success across the University, spanning various roles and departments. This year, amidst stiff competition, Lesa's accomplishment stands out among 250 entries across 11 categories, with over 1,500 individuals nominated.

Special recognition also goes to Gabriel Jones and his team for being a finalist within the "Innovation and Commercialisation Award” category. Their project, "Improving Global Epilepsy Diagnosis Through Interdisciplinary Research and Technologies – Epilepsy Pathway Innovation in Africa, and the Oxford Martin Programme on Global Epilepsy," exemplifies our commitment to advancing healthcare solutions through ground breaking research and collaboration.

Dr Shobi Nagra was also highly commended in the Community Partnership category with Tackling childhood malnutrition in Oxfordshire: From grassroots to policy actions. This 65 stakeholder-strong partnership started a multidisciplinary dialogue about tackling income and food inequalities, and ensuring that every child in Oxfordshire has access to nutritious, affordable food every day.

The Vice-Chancellor Professor Irene Tracey, CBE FRS FMedSci, presented the awards at a special ceremony at the Sheldonian Theatre on 8 May 2024.

“The Awards Ceremony and Showcase really brought out the very best of Oxford – highlighting the difference we make not just within this institution, but also in our local community and around the world. I hope that by hosting these awards – from our academics and researchers to professional services and support staff and our external partners – we will cross-pollinate ideas, learn from and inspire each other, as we continue to find new and better ways of doing things.”
– Professor Irene Tracey, Vice-Chancellor CBE FRS FMedSci
