Cervical Cancer Prevention Week runs from 22nd - 28th January 2018. Every day, 9 women are diagnosed with Cervical Cancer and 2 women lose their lives. And yet 75% of cervical cancers can be prevented by cervical screening. The key messages of Prevention Week are for women to attend cervical screening when invited and to take up the HPV vaccination if aged 11-18.

Dr Karin Hellner from the Nuffield Department of Women's & Reproductive Health leads the NHS Trust’s Colposcopy service which cares for approx 4k women a year who have experienced an abnormal smear or are referred for suspected cervical cancer. She says “The number of women attending life-saving smear tests is falling, Prevention Week is a really important way of engaging women with how they can reduce their risk of the disease and the steps they can take to look after their health“.

If you would like to show your support in Prevention Week, one quick and easy way is to tweet in the #SmearForSmear 2018 Twitter campaign. Find out more here
