Researcher in Placental Extracellular Vesicles and Pre-eclampsia

My current research focus is on placental derived extracellular vesicles in maternal and fetal health; developing novel technologies of extracellular vesicle detection, quantitation and characterisation; this can be used to better understand disease mechanisms. It also has wide potential in clinical diagnosis and hence industrial collaboration to develop new diagnostic methods. This is a rapidly developing field and I am lucky to be working at its cutting edge. I also supervise several D.Phil. students and manage projects with our international collaborators. The combination of high level research and teaching is in line with the remit of the Medical Sciences division.
The most meaningful aspect of my work is my research into leptin and pregnancy complications could potentially leads to better patients’ management. I like to train and teach young researchers and so invest in future generations of scientists. I like to use my knowledge and experience to mitigate unnecessary pitfalls in their quest for knowledge and discovery.
