Associate Professor of Reproductive Medicine

  • Associate Professor of Reproductive Medicine
  • Board member of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA)
  • Chair of HFEA's Scientific and Clinical Advances Advisory Committee (SCAAC)
  • Trustee of The Fertility Alliance charity

I studied medicine at the Universities of Cambridge and London, followed by postgraduate training in Oxford and Montreal (McGill University). I earned my MD from the University of London, with a thesis titled 'Clinical and ultrasound prediction of outcome in unstimulated oocyte in-vitro maturation cycles.'

Upon completing my RCOG Sub-Specialist Training in Reproductive Medicine, I assumed the role of Senior Fellow at the NDWRH and Honorary Consultant Gynaecologist at the John Radcliffe Hospital in 2004. From 2004 to 2023, I served as Director and Medical Director of the Oxford Fertility Unit and played a pivotal role as a Founding and Group Medical Director of TFP, one of the largest assisted conception networks in Europe. In 2015, I was appointed as an Associate Professor at the NDWRH.

I actively contributed as the IVF clinician on the Guidelines Development Group for the 2013 NICE Fertility Guidelines and played a foundational role in the Teaching Board for the University of Oxford MSc in Clinical Embryology. In 2020, I was appointed by the Secretary of State for Health to the Board of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA), the UK's regulator of assisted conception treatment and research. I currently chair the HFEA's largest sub-committee, the Scientific and Clinical Advances Advisory Committee (SCAAC), responsible for the widely used IVF Add-Ons rating system and other aspects of assisted conception scientific review. My contributions were honoured with the European Fertility Society's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021.

As a Trustee of The Fertility Alliance, a fertility education and patient support charity, and co-author of the UK's highest-selling textbook in O&G, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Wiley, I actively engage in advancing reproductive health awareness and education.

The primary focus of my team's research is to uncover the causes of reproductive failure, exploring innovative treatment regimes to enhance outcomes and minimise risks.
