Leanne Beeson
BSc (Hons)
Programme Officer
I graduated with a degree in Human Biology from University of Birmingham in 2010. I subsequently started my career in clinical trials as a Data Manager at the Birmingham Clinical Trials Unit (BCTU) in 2012 before progressing to a Trial Manager role from 2014 and Senior Trial Manager role from 2017. I have over 14 years of experience working across several women’s health trials including RESPITE (intravenous remifentanil patient-controlled analgesia versus intramuscular pethidine for pain relief in labour), MifeMiso (Mifepristone and misoprostol versus misoprostol alone for the management of missed miscarriage) and E-MOTIVE (Early detection of postpartum haemorrhage and treatment using the World Health Organization MOTIVE ‘first response’ bundle: a cluster randomised trial).
I joined the Nuffield Department of Women's and Reproductive Health (NDWRH) at University of Oxford in 2026 and I currently work as Programme Officer on the E-MASTER study (Diagnosis of postpartum haemorrhage at caesarean section: a multi-country diagnostic and prognostic accuracy study).
As Programme Officer I work closely with the Programme Manager to centrally coordinate the study across five participating countries (India, Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan and Rwanda).
Our research group have won awards including the David Sackett Trial of the Year award (2023, Society for Clinical Trials), Outstanding Impact on the Health and Wellbeing of People, and Animal Welfare award (2024, University of Birmingham) and Research Project of the Year (STEM) award (2025, Times Higher Education) all for the E-MOTIVE trial.
I’ve been a member of the UK Trial Manager’s Network since 2015.
