Research Assistant

  • PI group: Prof Suzannah Williams
In the Williams Lab, my research focuses on animal conservation, particularly through the Poo Zoo Project and the Rhino Fertility Project.

Poo Zoo Project

As part of the Poo Zoo Project, we are developing a non-invasive technique for viable cell collection and culture across multiple endangered species. Intestinal cells are naturally shed into faeces, providing a novel alternative to invasive biopsies for sample collection. This approach enables the collection of samples from a greater number of individuals, helping to preserve genetic diversity and support the long-term viability of endangered populations.

Rhino Fertility Project

In the Rhino Fertility Project, we focus on developing advanced techniques to culture rhino ovarian tissues and generate viable oocytes in vitro. With only two female Northern White Rhinos remaining on Earth, the urgency of this work cannot be overstated. By utilising Southern White Rhino ovarian tissue as a research model, we aim to develop reproductive technologies that could help rescue the Northern White Rhino from extinction.

I hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Embryology and Assisted Reproduction Technology from the University of Leeds. Working in the Williams Lab allows me to merge my passion for reproductive science with the profound purpose of wildlife conservation, contributing to innovative solutions for preserving endangered species.
