Brittany Vining

After completing my Bachelor of Science, majoring in Genetics (Massey University, New Zealand), I undertook a Graduate Diploma of Reproductive Science (Monash University, Australia) where my interest for reproductive biology further evolved. I then completed my PhD in Reproductive Genetics (Monash University and Hudson Institute of Medical Research, Australia), focusing on identifying novel gene targets of the transcription factor SOX9 in male sex development.

My academic career has involved the use of a variety of cell culture and animal models, with a particular focus on the embryonic development of male and female reproductive systems. 

In my current role on the 'Poo Zoo' project, I am working to establish methods for deriving viable primary cell cultures from scat samples. If successful, this approach will enable less invasive collection of biological material from a diverse range of species, facilitating broader sampling, preserving genetic diversity and supporting conservation efforts to help prevent species extinction.
