Our previous strategy (NDWRH Strategic Plan 2018/19 to 2022/23)
In the summer of 2018, the department formulated its inaugural shared strategy, which was circulated internally at the start of the academic year 2018/19. Aligned with the University's timeframe and terminology, the strategy was disseminated through the leadership framework, with designated working groups entrusted with its implementation, primarily focusing on SMART priorities. Documentation such as meeting minutes and agendas served as tangible evidence of progress, with outstanding tasks readily identifiable.
By 2023, 70% of the strategy had been accomplished, despite facing disruptions due to the pandemic, which accounted for 22 lost months (equating to 36% of the total timeframe). Given the demanding circumstances, achieving 70% completion was commendable.
Looking ahead to the strategy for 2023/24 to 2027/28, the Government's Women’s Health Strategy for England, published in August 2022, underscored the need for greater attention to women-specific health issues. The department's current research themes align with many aspects of the Government's strategy while identifying areas for strategic growth, such as women's mental health and menopause.
Opportunities abound for enhancing the teaching programme, with plans for additional multidisciplinary MSc degree courses in Global Women’s Health and Reproductive Genetics. The new strategy aims to foster excellence in research and teaching, encompassing all aspects of the department's operations, with an ambitious, comprehensive, and inclusive approach.
