Kazem Rahimi

Kazem Rahimi is a Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine and Population Health, at the University of Oxford and a consultant cardiologist at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust. His research interests include hypertension, heart failure, valvular heart disease and preventive cardiovascular medicine, using a variety of methodologies such as individual-patient meta-analysis, large-scale decentralised clinical trials, and digital health technologies.
 
Kazem leads the Deep Medicine programme at the Nuffield Department of Women’s and Reproductive Health with a major interest in application of machine learning approaches to electronic health records. He also leads the Blood Pressure Lowering Treatment Trialists’ Collaboration (BPLTTC), which is an international collaboration of all the major trials of blood pressure lowering drugs. 

Kazem is the Editor-in-Chief of BMJ Heart; Deputy Chair of NIHR Academy Panel, Doctoral Fellowship Scheme; Panel College Member of the UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship scheme; Advisory Board Member Medtronic PLC for Renal Denervation Programme; and co-founder of Zeesta Ltd (www.zeesta.ai). Kazem is a member of the European Society of Cardiology Guidelines Methodology Group and has served as Advisor to the World Health Organisation. He served as a member of the NICE Medical Technology Advisory Committee until 2024, and was a Speciality Editor of PLOS Medicine to 2022.

Kazem is the Chair of the Research Working Group and a member of the Senior Executive Group of the Nuffield Department of Women’s and Reproductive Health. He has been acting as the lead for Data Science Theme of the department.
