Emily Shepherd

RM MSc BSc

Research Midwife

I began my career in medical research after completed a an undergraduate degree and following Masters in Medical Engineering at the University of Leeds (2007-2011). Post completing my higher education I worked briefly at the University undertaking research in investigating novel materials for Total Knee Replacement technology.

In 2012 I then went on to complete an undergraduate degree in Midwifery at the University of Nottingham, before coming to Oxford to practice as a midwife where I have worked in a variety of settings including Delivery Suite, Maternity Assessment Unit, Level 5 and spending some time in a community setting. I still currently work part time performing clinical duties.

I joined the Nuffield Department of Women's and Reproductive Health in September 2017 as a research midwife, working within the Endometriosis Care and Research (CaRe) Centre on various studies looking into the biology of uterine fibroids and endometriosis. My role is to identify and recruit potential participants, collect and process biological and surgical samples and contribute to the daily running of the study.
