Admissions criteria

What are the specific academic requirements for the course?

You will need at least an undergraduate degree in a relevant subject graded at either a first or upper second class according to UK classification, or overseas equivalent. 

How important is it for me to have a degree that is at least equivalent to an upper second class standard on the UK system?

Admissions criteria

It is compulsory. If your degree is not of an appropriate standard then we cannot offer you a place on the course. 

How can I find out if my degree grade is eligible for Oxford entry?

Please contact graduate_studies@wrh.ox.ac.uk, as we have databases to compare international degrees to the grading system used within the UK.

I passed my English language qualifications five years ago. Do I need to re-take the test?

Yes. English language qualifications MUST have been taken within two years of the start date of your course. 

How strict are the English language requirements?

Admissions criteria

You MUST have the standard level of ability in English, as your instruction and thesis will be written in English. 

I do not currently have the appropriate English language qualifications. Can I still apply?

Admissions criteria

Yes. You do not need to submit an English language test result with your application. Any offer made will be conditional on supplying test results for the required level of English by a specified date.

I am an overseas student but have lived in the UK for over 10 years. Do I still need to obtain an English language qualification?

If your first language is not English (or you are not a national of a majority-English speaking country as recognised by UK Visas and Immigration) you will need to provide evidence that you have reached the relevant standard of English. 

Can I study on a part-time basis?

No, unfortunately we do not offer this course part-time.
