Huge congratulations to Josephine Agyeman-Duah, DPhil student in the Kennedy group who won a Race Equality award at the Oxford Student Union Awards 2022.

The Oxford Student Union Awards are dedicated to celebrating the amazing work students have done over the last year, recognising and rewarding them for the impact they’ve had on the student body and the student experience at Oxford. Each nomination has been submitted by students, and the winners and shortlists decided by the Oxford Student Union Sabbatical Officers.

Jossey was selected as an important recipient of the Race Equality Award as she has been involved in fighting racism at Oxford. She is an inspiring leader who has achieved outstanding results within Oxford and beyond. As the first GCR (Graduate Common Room Committee) Black Student’s Representative, she established the Black Students’ Society (more info can be found here) and spear-headed a new library collection on self-education on racism. Jossey went on to establish a black mentorship programme in 2021 to support student’s career progression by mapping them with experienced black professionals. Josephine succeeded in getting her college, Green Templeton College, to support Black History Month by flying the “DifferentEqual” flag for the first time.

A well deserved win!
