Anita Makins

BMedSci, BMBS, MPH, FRCOG, PhD


Director of MSc in Global Women's Health

Anita Makins is a Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist with a specialist interest is in Global Women's Health.  She has worked extensively in Sub-Saharan Africa and South East Asia with NGOs including Medecins Sans Frontieres and SolidarMed, Ministries of Health in several low and middle income countries and international organisations including FIGO and the WHO.  She is currently Honorary Senior lecturer in Global Women's Health at Oxford University and lead for Women’s Health at Oxford University’s multidisciplanary Global Surgery Group. She lectures undergraduate and postgraduate doctors at the university and has published widely in the scientific literature.  Her current research interests include postpartum family planning, improvements in global surgery for the rural poor and the management of breech presentation.  She is also currently in the process of supporting the development of a MSC in Women's Health with the Nuffield Department of Womens and Reproductive Health.
