Won't you look a little closer? Pain beyond the pelvis in Endometriosis. DPhil Student Danielle Perro wins Public Engagement funding to educate and inspire the public using artwork representing Endometriosis.

What do you do with an original and compelling idea to engage the public with your research? Apply to the Medical Sciences Division Public Engagement with Research Seed Fund, that’s what! DPhil student Danielle Perro from the Endometriosis CaRe Centre including the Pain in Women group did just this and she was awarded £3850 to deliver an art display and educational event to help inform and inspire the public about Endometriosis.

Danielle hosted her virtual event on 20th March 2021 to coincide with Endometriosis Awareness Month. It was called “Won't you look a little closer? Pain beyond the pelvis in Endometriosis” and it involved her working with visual artists and people with Endometriosis to communicate their pain via art.

Following on from the event, Danielle Perro said:

" I just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who attended this morning's event! I'm overwhelmed with emotion after the vulnerable stories and art that was shared, and the insightful conversations about endometriosis, widespread pain and art."

We’re preparing to display the finished artwork in Level 3 of the Women’s Centre, for all to enjoy when we return to the office.
