Jayne Lander

Research Sonographer

I qualified from the University of Bournemouth as a registered midwife in 2004. I practiced in a hospital setting before developing an interest in medical imaging. I graduated from the University of Portsmouth in 2012 with a BSc (hons) in Diagnostic Radiography. During my time as a diagnostic radiographer I gained experience in a broad range of medical imaging including X Ray, Fluoroscopy and CT. I then spent 18 months specialising in paediatric imaging. I decided to combine my experience in both midwifery and medical imaging and gained a postgraduate certificate in medical ultrasound from King’s College London in 2018. I have been an obstetric sonographer at John Radcliffe Hospital since 2018 and continue to work part time within the NHS. I currently work as a research sonographer based at NDWRH.

During my ultrasound training I developed an interest in research and I joined the PULSE research team in 2021, led by Prof Aris Papageorghiou. PULSE involves using artificial intelligence-based technologies to assist with the interpretation of ultrasound images.

I joined the Wellcome LEAP In-Utero Oxford team led by Prof Antoniya Georgieva in 2023. The team are working to develop novel technology for continuous fetal monitoring in order to identify babies at risk of stillbirth.
